The SODH was the first to be constructed among the six selected Districts of Ghana under
the Ghana Hospitals Project, The projects were undertaken for the purposes of expanding and improving the health facilities in Ghana to serve the increased population.

The hospital has a walk-in clinical capability, surgery backed by two operating theatres accident & emergency centers, diagnosis and physiotherapy, x-ray room, a traditional medicine center, maternity unit and ward, pediatric/male/female wards, pharmacy services, high-earned medical equipment, staff accommodation, mortuary among others
